Album Review by Sovereign
Rememebr their last attempt Ichtyologist back in 2009. If you like music of Made out of Babies, Grayceon, Intronaut, Helms Alle, We Made God, Terra Tenebrosa, Opeth, Pain of Salvation etc. The album offers a mix of progressive sounds with sludge metal paths. Beutifull music with complicated elements and fresh ideas. The cello again create somtething unique for the sound of the band. This album is a brilliant as for the compositions, creation. Very deep songs that followed by excellent prog vocals that fit great with the sound. Taste this piece of art.

The Matador - Descent Into The Maelstrom [2011]
The Matador - Descent Into The Maelstrom
[Self-Release, 2011]
genre: Sludge, Post-Metal, Post Hardcore, Progressive
Album review by Astronaut
Are you in sludgy, post, progressive and hardcore mood and wanna try something new? Try “Descent into the Maelstrom”, the debut EP of “The Matador” of a five member band from Australia which combines all the above genres in a very aesthetical way. The album consists of 5 well composed tracks full of intensity. The overall sound of the band is influenced by bands such as Rosetta, Neurosis, Baroness and similar. The guitars sound are a little bit sludgy and filthy when the distortion is on, creating the base for the catalyst of the band to act; the vocals of Daniel Godson. There is some serious dynamics in The Matador’s vocalist which gives The Matador the required distinctive style in order to separate from the average bands of this sound. There are many great moments to every track of the album that there is no need to be examined sepeately as “Descent into the Maelstrom” is an homogenous album that flaws uninterrupted from the start till the end in 30 minutes. The Matador made an album tha demands anyones attention. So, check em out and support them.

Omega Massif - Karpatia [Denovali, 2011]
Omega Massif - Karpatia
[Denovali, 2011]
genre: post-metal, doom metal
Album Review by Astronaut
After Geisterstadt, the album that established Omega Massif as one of the best post metal bands, Karpatia is their latest work which should make the bandcomplacent about it’s so far music achievements. The overall sound of the band has differed a little bit as it contains larger quantities of post-rock guitars that emerge suddenly in many tracks and fit pretty well with the known heavy and aggressive and intense atmosphere that Omega Massif create. Of course the doom parts are not forgotten revealing the darker aspect that the band declares by the name Karpatia. The album consists of six tracks all very composed and executed with mathematical caution. Aura, the opening track could be Omega Massif’s identity as it includes all the major characteristics that made Geisterstadt a great record. Wolfe, second in line, is 3:35 minute attack from some serious technical and progressive guitar riffing that could a perfect way to beat everyone around you when the band performs live. Ursus Arctos and Im Karste are slower than the average speed of Karpatia, at least in the beginning, where their doom introductions evolve to fast post bursts. Karpatia, the track, is an ambient pass to the last track of the album and my favourite. Steinerness Meir combines everything above with a strong advantage towards the other tracks; the melody of it’s main core. Of course this differentiation is not meant to degrade the rest of the tracks, but to become the perfect end of another great album from Omega Massif.

PRE_ORDER NOW, The Hunter, the follow-up to 2009’s critically embraced Crack The Skye, was recorded in the band’s hometown of Atlanta as well as in Los Angeles with producer Mike Elizondo. As with all of their albums, Mastodon, which is bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Keliher, and drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, decided to take a completely different tack and musical approach to the music on this album. The band feels confident that fans will be excited and fulfilled by what they will hear.
Obscure Sphinx - Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual [2011]
Obscure Sphinx - Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual
[self released, 2011]
genre: post-metal, sludge, progressive metal, atmospheric metal.
Album review by Astronaut
Massive debut album from Obscure Sphinx. They are a five member band from Poland who’s music emits pure energy that i can distinguish in bands like Cult of Luna, Battle of Mice, Meshuggah and other similar to the genre. The “Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual” is an album that awakes you either you are sleeping or not. With just one hearing the potential of the band can be easily recognised. Tracks like Nastiez, Eternity, Bleed in me (Pt2) are indicative samples of their dynamics. Zofia Fras, the singer of the band is an absolute nuclear weapon to Obscure Sphinx’s possession. She sings, chants and screams with such an amazing raw and full of power way that makes the overall result unique as her voice accompanies amazingly heavy post-metal and progressive guitar riffs. Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual is an album that demands to be heard in the appropriate level of volume. Extremely loud!

Light Bearer - Lapsus [2011]
Light Bearer - Lapsus
[Moment of Collapse Records, 2011]
genre: post-hardcore, progressive-metal, sludge-metal, post-metal,
Album review by Astronaut
Light Bearer is an exceptional gathering of musicians from England who recently gave birth to the first of their four upcoming albums, Lapsus. The band is formed in 2010 by members of Fall of Efrafa, a great band that unfortunately ended in 2009, and Dungeons. Alex Bradshaw, the former singer of Fall of Efrafa, with his amazing vocals haunts the atmosphere that the band creates transforming Lapsus from a great album to a superb one. Light Bearer play a mixture of melodic post-hardcore, post-metal with progressive and atmospheric elements accompanied with melodic piano and cello parts. Lapsus describes the story of Lucifer’s exile from heaven. The story is split in four chapters Lapsus, Silver Tongue, Magisterium and finally Lattermost Sword. The album consists of six tracks that in only 60 minutes can convert every angry thought of yours into moments of elation. There is no need to try to describe each track separately us they all contain the same common ingredient. The fact that from the very first hearing every melody of each track is nailed into your mind and according to Freud’s early psychoanalytic theory, as a lapsus represents a missed deed that hides an unconscious desire, the album demands to hear it all over again and again. The only doubt i have regarding to the quality of Lapsus is if Light Bearer will manage to overcome this magnificent result in their three remaining albums. Let’s hope so!
