A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen - A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen [2011]
A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen – A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen
[JezusFactory Records, 2011]
genre: progressive rock, experimental, math rock, noise
Album review by Astronaut
A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen is the debut album of the homonym band from Belgium that consists of Craig Ward, Bootsie Butsenzeller and Zahnoun Ben Younes. This skillful trio is blending random amounts of progressive, experimental, math, noise, in a very awkward but surprisingly interesting way. The album contains eight tracks of randomly distributed progressive dirt that bathing may be necessary after listening to it, as the band aptly describes itself. The filthiness of the guitars accompanied with raw bass lines in tracks like “Safety Shot” or the insane “Pigeon Song” is one of their major characteristics of the band that seem to come out so naturally as they create them. Of course it is not an album that addresses to the majority of the audience because the chaotic complexity in ACKIAHK’s compositions cannot be tolerated by everyone. Personally I found the album really interesting and I strongly recommend that if you are pleased by dirty-styled progressive then this is an piece of work that will enthuse you. Overall ACKIAHK will become a perfect friend of you given that you are a little bit psycho or you meet the basic requirements in order to be one.

Maserati-Pyramid of the sun [2010]
Maserati-Pyramid of the sun
[Temporary Residence Ltd 2010]
genre: post-rock, krautrock, progressive rock, electronica
Review by Truebelief
Maserati ’s fourth full-scaled release was halted for some time by life’s ill-fated games as prodigious drummer Jerry Fuchs (!!!, The Turing Machine, MSTRKRFT, The Juan MacLean, and LCD Soundsystem) died in an elevator accident in November 2009. But out of tragedy ,one of most exhilarating releases of the year was born. “Pyramid of the sun” is an eclectic blend of post/ psychedelic/progressive rock incorporating also electronica sounds that provide the appropriate level of freshness to a riveting and rather spacey atmosphere throughout the whole duration of the recording. Uplifting and dynamic bass lines alongside Fuchs’ precise, passionate and groove-focused drumming create a phenomenal rhythm section. Every single track is a mood booster and all eight of them have a flowing continuity without sounding pretentious at any point. Waves of positive emotions and energy fill every note. Coley Dennis and Matt Cherry execute stratospheric guitar heroics (that remind me of Porcupine Tree’s “Voyage 34” album) managing to preserve the vibrant funky (near dance floor) feeling throughout. I could not avoid mentioning the exquisite production and the versatile songwriting of this record. Despite being difficult to distinguish a single track, I dare to say that “We Got the System to Fight the System” with its rebellious pulse is a real highlight while “Bye M’Friend, Goodbye” is a joyful, emotive epitaph, a true celebration of Fuchs’ memory and achievements. The best Maserati release to date and a true monument of experimental musicianship.

After releasing the Japan-only New Album in March, the Tokyo-based trio unveiled two more full-lengths, Heavy Rocks and Attention Please, on the same day. The new album was actually a compilation of the other two plus some other tracks. Boris will be co-headlining a European tour together with new label mates Russian Circles this Summer. Joining them on all the dates will be SAADE. Boris will also be playing a few shows on their own from July 19 - July 24. Their new edition of heavy rocks, remember that they release a same title album back in 2002. They try to redefine, their heavy sound. I thin they did it in a great way. This album is FANTASTIC. If you like Boris for their heavy sounds (like
This is an album for different kind of music fans. This is for sure their least metal album ever. It sounds good, but I cannot compare it to the above cause are tottally different and my music taste goes closer to Heavy music they provide in their other 2011’s release, than this one! Try to explore this to. “Attention Please is the first of the two releases, and it highlights Boris’ softer side, showcasing guitarist Wata’s delicate vocals against an alt-rock, art-rock, and dance-infused backdrop. Ambient, echoing soundscapes transition to moments of soft electronic/acoustic rumination (“You”), psychedelic solos (“Tokyo Wonder Land”), and classical guitar (“Aileron,” which gets a long drone-sludge reprise on Heavy Rocks). It’s up and down but shows a potentially exciting new direction for the band.”
Surprise! I really didn’t expect that a recently formed band that have just only released their first promo could satisfy my musical needs and make me extremely optimistic about the future of this synthetic yet unidentified genre of music that some of my favorite bands play such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Tool and many more. The musical depth and knowledge of the five member band, Borderline Syndrome, that formed in Athens in 2010 is obvious and although they don’t try to impress the listener, they fatally do it by projecting each one’s music influences in a solid and modern way that pleases your heart and your mind. Their ideas are plenty and the overall result exceeds by far the average bands that try to create that complicated and demanding genre.
If you are an Anathema fan you will probably already own this album. This is the must have album from Anathema, because it is coming seven years after the excellent ‘A Natural Disaster’ and it is probably the most beautiful album of 2010. Their music changes year per year and from an album to the next one. The band produced some of the most lyrical and sentimental albums of atmospheric metal and modern rock over the last 20 years. I do not want to talk about the past, but their compositions flow through my veins. For sure the change their sound several times, but Anathema are still heavy, they write excellent lyrics, they produce fantastic music and they build some great compositions. Their atmosphere is unique and inside this album the keys are fantastic. It is great post-rock music with bursts and a unique melody. I think he album makes you feel like a child meet some feeling for the first time. Seven years appears as a long time in between albums, but I think it was worth the wait. We’re Here Because We’re Here is a confident step forward for the band. A step full of sentiments, atmospheres, soundscapes, melodies, feelings and great music structure. This album is one of the best in indie rock genres at this time. Great band, great imagination, great vocals, fantastic guitars, unique effects and keyboards, excellent and modern drums and rhythm section in general.
